I covered the foiled backs with several layers of varnish plus they don't touch any surfaces directly because of the wire frame - some of the wires are meant to support the back and keep the bead from slipping off or turning around (for drilled beads). If given a choice and knowledge that the foil backing is relatively long lasting I will pick the backed bead to wear. But it is just personal choice in the end.
