Silver Blue Dreams /

I got blue and silver jewelry elements for the 2018 Bead Peeps Swap'n'Hop from my partner Bonnie Robbins (check out the picture at the bottom). The perfect color combo! We don't have to make the design of the year but we have to try and do justice to our partners. I always set myself a small challenge - it's either a new technique, or a new design, or, in this case, I decided to stick to the color scheme.

Silver Blue Dreams Set /

Large sodalite donut focal with wire woven bail; wire woven hooks with silver plated wire, decorated with small lapis beads; finished with a silver plated chain. I intended to make the weaving more ornate but the wire I had was too hard so I added the versatile hook to the design.

I tried to make dimensional earrings (Kathy Frey Tutorial) and while the frames were the same at the beginning (I swear), at the end one of them was thinner. I made some hammered eye pins in different lengths with the lapis beads, added large color enhanced blue beads and silver spacers and made a collar necklace. I strung everything on memory wire but it started looking dull. On an impulse, I added some free-style wrapping with thick aluminum wire on both ends. Closure is with lobster clasp, because the weight of the necklace pulls the ends down when worn.

The earrings you see are the result of hole drilling gone wrong. I had to switch from a boho design with long dangles to twisted wire. The light blue and white beads came from a vintage Czech glass necklace.

Finally, I made a two-strand bracelet with the wire wrapped links, lapis beads and the handmade clasp.

I guess this is the most expected annual event by many handmade jewelry artists all over the world and we owe this opportunity to the enthusiasm of Linda Anderson! I am thankful for the inspiration to her and my partner Bonnie Robbins, whose creations you can see on her Instagram.

  1. You really have made some beautiful things. The designs are really well thought out - the circles to match the donut pendant and the silver leafy designs coupled with the spiky silver. Just lovely!

    1. Thank you, Penny! I'm glad you see what I see, even though the designs evolved instinctively!

  2. I love both the necklace and I think that they are fantastic. You might feel that it is a simple blue and silver combo (which is actually very difficult to work with). But the details of the wire wrapping ends and the wire leaves makes the pieces look modern, new, and elegant

    1. Thank you, Divya! Indeed, I was tempted to take out more beads and elements but pursued my little challenge and am glad I did, your opinion means a lot!

  3. I love this color palette! I especially like your first necklace with the donut. It's the chain you created that really captures my attention! As for the other necklace that was supposed to be earrings...I have the same problem sometimes with trying to match things exactly, they never do. I like how you switched gears, kept going, never letting that stop you. Inspiring!

    1. Thank you, Becky! At first I felt the bail was a little modest but then the focal was too beautiful to hide :)
